West hosted the fourth annual Multicultural Fair on Wednesday.

The Multicultural Fair is a community event where students show off their diverse cultural backgrounds and interests. The fair is open to all who would like to come and is a night of food, fun and education.

Students of various cultures set up booths and exhibits to display their heritage. In the cafeteria different groups demonstrated their culture by selling food, such as French crepes, Latin American empanadas and quesadillas, and Australian lamingtons, which are chocolate covered desserts.

Students also performed music and skits in the learning center to demonstrate their culture.

“It really brings the community together and it’s just a really fun time for everybody,” said Sarah Durgan, who presented at the Russia booth.

Durgan was among the many students who presented, performed and helped in many different ways.

“The student body is involved in a sincere way, not because they have to, but because they want to,” said German teacher Karin Awve.

Students agreed wholeheartedly with Awve. Saying that they wanted people to know they were different.

“I wanted to get my message out. I wanted my voice to be heard,” said junior Cameron Wiley, who rapped a song he had written.

It wasn’t only students and staff who enjoyed the fair. Many community members also did as well.

“It’s a good way to get the kids involved with different cultures. I like that there’s stuff for the little kids to do,” said Jerri Schuster, a community member who came with her four sons, from middle school age to 7 months, to enjoy the festivities.
